When fully zipped, the Porto resembles a sophisticated gym bag and there is a luggage pass-through handle on the back. When not attached to a suitcase, the bottom of this zipper closes so it can be used as a pocket. An additional pocket on one end also has an ID card slot where you can write your and your cat’s information. There are also seat belt straps to prevent it from bouncing around in the back seat while driving, but as the brand points out, this is not a guarantee of safety in the event of a collision. (Also, you should not strap them in the front seat, as the airbag could be fatal in the event of an accident.)
The canvas shell is water resistant and should only be spot cleaned. I sprayed it with the faucet and it wiped off easily, but of course if you get caught in a rain storm the fabric around the zipper and straps will stay wet. The pad can be thrown into the washing machine.
The Porto only comes in one size, but with a weight limit of 30 pounds, most cats and even small dogs should be suitable. My three cats run the size range, weighing 4, 10, and 20 pounds. Technically my biggest cat fits her, but since your cat should be able to turn around completely, she probably needs something bigger. My husband and I don’t take them out of the house frequently, but we will continue to test them.
Cost of comfort
Tuft and Paw designers work alongside feline behaviorists to ensure their ideas are not only visually appealing, but also consider the safety and mental well-being of cats. In this case it influenced the amount of mesh. There is a screen door and a small panel on top, which may be less screened than you are used to. The Tuft and Paw spokesperson told me that while most cat parents assume more mesh is better, too much visual exposure can actually make tense situations worse. There’s enough mesh for air circulation and a bit of a view, but not so much that it overwhelms already frightened cats.
Its products are generally as expensive as They are beautiful-all our cats deserve play on it luxurious cat tree but not all our cats are contribute to bills, am I right ? But in this case, I don’t think $99 is outrageous. It’s not much more than the $60-$80 carriers I was used to, and I noticed an obvious improvement in quality when I upgraded to the Porto. The very expensive $195 Passenger carrier Diggs uses thicker, sturdier material. But it’s also smaller, with a limit of 18 pounds. If you’re on the fence, Tuft and Paw also includes a pricing breakdown on each product page to explain the overall costs of creating and shipping each item.
Awareness Why a product costing this much doesn’t magically put money in my pocket, but the work put into Tuft and Paw’s designs makes spending on its products a little easier than just throwing money at a seller Amazon randomly. Hey, I said easyuhnot painless.
