Threads finally lets you delete your account separately from Instagram

Meta is rolling out a way to let you delete your Threads profile without having to also delete your Instagram account. You will be able to access the new feature from the settings menu in a new section “Delete or deactivate profile”, according to a publication from Instagram boss Adam Mosseri. I don’t have this feature myself yet, but I think Meta will make it available to everyone soon.

This new possibility of deleting just your Threads profile responds to an initial complaint filed with the app, which currently requires that you sign up with an Instagram account. However, shortly after the app launched, Mosseri said the company “search in” a way to be able to delete a Threads account on your own. (And if you don’t want to permanently delete your Threads profile, you can always deactivate it.)

Mosseri also said the platform is implementing a way to opt out of showing your Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram. Functionality first appeared this weekendand Meta introduced it after “hearing feedback that you want more control over the experience.” Mosseri says.
