Tesla hits reverse on threat to sue Cybertruck resellers

Tesla appears to be reversing the punitive limits it imposed on buyers of its yet-to-be-released Cybertrucks.

Just yesterday, a Tesla US Order Agreement The page included a threat to sue Cybertruck buyers who resell the vehicle without permission within their first year of ownership. This language is no longer present on the page since Tuesday. However, it remains accessible via internet archives.

Tesla’s rules stipulated that Cybertruck buyers couldn’t even attempt to sell their vehicle in the first year unless they received direct permission from Tesla to do so – and gave the company the option to buy it back first.

The order agreement also stated: “Tesla may seek an injunction to prevent the transfer of title to the vehicle or seek damages from you in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or of the transfer, whichever is greater. Tesla may also refuse to sell future vehicles to you.

Tesla seems to have changed course, but the disappearance of the text must be taken with a grain of salt. Tesla hasn’t said whether the language is gone for good, and it’s not clear what prompted the change. The update was spotted by User X Sawyer Merritt.

This is not the first time Tesla has sought to discourage resellers. In fact, the company is attracted attention in recent years for putting resellers on his “don’t sell lists.”
