The Orca uses no fuel or oil, so there is no risk of this excess gunk flowing into waterways like a fossil fuel-powered engine would. The Orca engine also does not need to be winterized – a common scourge when servicing gas-powered boats – as it draws water through a separate channel to power the unit, leaving no risk of the interior parts freeze in cold weather.

All this forward thinking means the Orca is also, of course, expensive. The Orca Performance will set you back $19,490. The lighter, limited-edition carbon fiber model starts at an even higher price of $26,500. Taiga Motors has a cheaper machine in the works, the 90-horsepower Orca Sport for $17,490, but it’s not yet available.
However, these prices are not exactly out of step with those of Taiga’s competitors. Gasoline watercraft from Kawasaki, Sea Doo and Yamaha can cost between $5,000 and $20,000. Luxury models can go up from there to something as jaw-dropping as, say, the $900,000 Bouvet Marine. Supermarine watercraft.
With this in mind, the Orca is an excellent watercraft. But then again, it would be amazing if that wasn’t the case. It’s really hard to have a bad time on a jet ski, especially one as smooth and exciting as Taiga’s.
Personally, I hope it works well enough that the company can expand and lower the price slightly. But for now, if cost isn’t an issue and you have a thing for high-speed detours on the water, this seems like the jet ski for you, both for the sake of the person who drives it and for that of everyone else around you. .
