Umatilla, Oregon, will be included in Sabey Data Centers’ expansion plans as designer, builder and operator of colocation data centers. Sabey has acquired 60 acres of land to build a state-of-the-art data center complex that will have a capacity of more than 100 megawatts (MW). Construction of the Sabey Data Centers (SDC) is planned to begin in the Umatilla, Oregon area in 2024.
SDC Umatilla will showcase Sabey’s “hyper-efficient data center designs.” These data center The designs were purpose-built to meet today’s dense hyperscale and enterprise deployments. A critical IT load of over 100 MW will be supported by the 700,000 square foot data center site.
As of 2020, Oregon had a 40% renewable fuel mix, with a goal of reaching 100% by 2040. Sabé will acquire or invest in carbon-free energy sources in time to achieve the company’s goal of net zero emissions by 2029 in Umatilla and across the SDC portfolio. That’s 11 years earlier than the goal Oregon set.

“Sabey is dedicated to our ambition to create state-of-the-art, ultra-efficient data centers in areas like Umatilla, bringing us closer to our goal of operating with net zero carbon emissions by 2029,” said Rob Rockwood, president of Sabey Data Centers. “Our data centers combine this level of sustainability with low total cost of ownership (TCO) throughout the data center lifecycle, reliability and connectivity. And as we have done in each of our markets, we will staff our campuses with men and women from the local community who share our vision of creating opportunities alongside the best data centers in the world.
The new data center campus will provide low-latency connections to the West Coast metro areas, as well as many different connection options. It would benefit from its proximity to the submarine cable networks on the west coast.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sabey to our community,” said Dave Stockdale, Umatilla City Manager. “We are pleased to support this initiative in Umatilla, based on their experience in providing advanced data center services through a highly sustainable operating model. Sabé‘s commitment to supporting some of our major projects demonstrates its reputation as an integrated community partner, and we look forward to having our exceptionally skilled local workforce join their team of professionals.
