Kingston launches IronKey D500S, a hardware-encrypted USB key

Kingston Digital has launched the Kingston IronKey D500S, a hardware-encrypted USB key that provides military-grade security for classified data in transit.
The D500S is FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified (pending) with new NIST enhancements requiring secure microprocessor upgrades for enhanced security and attack protection for government and military use. The drive self-tests upon startup and includes thermal and voltage protection to automatically shut down when a certain threshold is reached.
Waterproof, dustproof, shock and vibration proof to military standards, crush resistant and epoxy filled, the D500S’s rugged zinc housing protects internal components from penetration attacks.
The Multi-Password option with Complex or Passphrase mode allows users to take ownership of their data, making it easier to remember the password to unlock strict security. The administrator can reset a user password and enable a one-time recovery password to restore access if the user password is forgotten.
The administrator and user can set a session-based read-only mode to protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems, while the administrator can also set a global read-only mode until reset. To prevent data from falling into the wrong hands, the administrator can enter a Crypto-Erase password which will destroy the data and reset the drive to prevent unauthorized access in compromising situations.
The D500S includes great features found in the Kingston IronKey line such as 256-bit XTS-AES encryption, protection against BadUSB and Brute Force attacks with digitally signed firmware, Virtual Keyboard4 for protection of keyloggers and screen recorders, and the D500S also features the industry’s first dual partition option. .
The administrator can create two custom-sized secure partitions for the administrator and user, thereby enabling a hidden file store that can be used to provision files to the user partition as needed. When using untrusted systems or sharing the drive, hidden file stores keep data secure and invisible unless accessed properly.
“The flagship D500S with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) offers more features than any other drive in its class. The D500S upgrades the IronKey D300S with industry-leading security, making it a comprehensive security solution for protecting high-value data for large businesses and governments,” said Richard KanadjianIronKey Global Sales Director, Kingston.
“IronKey has become a critical pillar in meeting data loss prevention (DLP) best practices with the strictest military-grade security for compliance with data encryption laws and regulations such as SOC 2, NIS2, FISMA, GDPR, PIPEDA, HIPAA, HITECH, GLBA. , SOX and CCPA,” Kanadjian added.
The D500S offers extensive customization options and is TAA/CMMC compliant and assembled in the USA. Available in fast dual-channel performance with capacities up to 512 GB, backed by a 5-year warranty with free technical support. A company-managed D500SM model as well as an optional managed custom drive are also available.
Kingston IronKey D500S/SM Features and Specifications:
Military grade hardware encrypted USB drive: FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified 256-bit XTS-AES encryption (pending) with secure microprocessor upgrades for enhanced security. Built-in protections against BadUSB and Brute Force attacks. New automatic drive test at startup and thermal and voltage protection to automatically shut down drives when they reach certain thresholds.
Multi-password option for data recovery: Enable administrator, user, and one-time recovery passwords. The administrator can reset a user password and enable a one-time recovery password to restore user access to data if the user password is forgotten.
Complex mode or passphrase: Choose between Complex or Passphrase mode. Passphrases can be complete sentences, consisting of several words that only you remember – from 10 to 128 characters. An eye symbol for all entered passwords helps reduce typos.
Hidden dual partition option:Administrator can create two hidden double partitions of custom size for admin and user for hidden file store to keep data secure and invisible unless accessed properly. Hidden dual partitions can provide additional security on untrusted systems or where disk sharing is required.
Encrypted wipe password for compromising situations: Crypto-Erase Password will erase encryption keys, permanently delete all data and reset the drive.
Rugged housing built to IronKey’s highest standards: Waterproof, dustproof, crush-resistant, epoxy-filled zinc housing for tamper-proof physical security.
Fully customizable: Activate, deactivate, modify the features and profile of the player. Co-logo.
Global read-only and session modes (write protected): Administrator and user can set a session-based read-only mode to protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. The administrator can also set a global read-only mode that sets the drive to read-only mode until reset.
